Reception desks and bespoke furniture in Sóller

The photograph on this page is neither a kitchen nor a bathroom: it is an entrance space. A white bench cantilevered off the wall with no legs, beside vertical backlit screens that filter the light and let the green of the planting show through. This kind of work — receptions, entrance halls, waiting areas — is a significant part of what we do and the part least associated with the material. Here the aim is not stain resistance but form: pieces that cantilever, curve, glow from within and meet the wall without a metal trim. It is a machining and thermoforming job rather than a worktop job.

Elements for an entrance space

  • Reception desks with a continuous front and the top formed in the same piece.
  • Cantilevered benches and shelves, fixed to the wall with no visible support.
  • Perforated screens and dividers, machined to whatever pattern the project needs.
  • Integrated backlighting, using the translucency of the material.
  • Wall linings and reveals, to unify the whole hall.

With pieces like these the hard part is not the surface, it is the fixing. A cantilevered bench carries its own weight and that of whoever sits on it through a few points in the wall, so the project starts by establishing what that wall is made of. In older Sóller buildings, with stone or sandstone construction, that check is essential.

Screens are machined from sheet, following the cutting pattern set by the architect or interior designer. Because they are the same material as the bench and the wall lining, the whole assembly holds a single colour, without the tonal differences that appear when each element comes from a different supplier.

Other Areas

Sóller, the Port and the Tramuntana

We work in Sóller, Port de Sóller, Fornalutx, Biniaraix and Deià. Access in the Tramuntana strongly affects how large pieces are transported, so during the survey we define the split around how the material will actually reach the building.

Frequently Asked Questions about Luminous Dividers

How far can a bench cantilever without legs?
It depends on thickness, internal reinforcement and above all the wall. We calculate it case by case; solid stone allows far more than a stud partition.
Are the screens made specifically for the project?
Yes. They are machined to whatever pattern is specified, so the design can be unique to each space.
Can you work from the architect's drawings?
Yes, that is usual for this kind of commission. We work with the practice from the detail stage to resolve junctions and fixings.
Can any finish be backlit?
No. Backlighting needs translucent references, normally white or very pale. If the project calls for colour, the lighting is solved another way.
